Original Fine Art Photography by Donna Kennedy…
Photographed in Mystic, CT by my cousin Susan-Edited in Topaz Studio
The Charles W. Morgan is the last remaining wooden whaleship and the oldest American commercial vessel still in existence. Built in 1841 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, she sailed on 37 voyages around the globe during an 80-year whaling career. The vessel came to Mystic in 1941 and is now an exhibit at the Mystic Seaport museum in Mystic, Connecticut. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966. More than 20 million Mystic Seaport visitors have walked the whaleship’s decks.
During her years of service, the Morgan was used in several movies, including Miss Petticoats (1916), Down to the Sea in Ships (1922), Java Head (1923) and finally Steven Spielberg’s Amistad (1997).
