A Mallard duck landing on a frozen pond in Reno, NV on a cold November morning..
Mallard Duck - (anas platyrhynchos)
If someone at a park is feeding bread to ducks, chances are there are Mallards in the mix. Perhaps the most familiar of all ducks, Mallards occur throughout North America and Eurasia in ponds and parks as well as wilder wetlands and estuaries. The male's shimmering green head, gray flanks, and black tail-curl arguably make it the most easily identified duck. Almost all domestic ducks come from this species. Females and juveniles are mottled brown with orange-and-brown bills. Both sexes have a white-bordered, blue "speculum" patch in the wing.

Magnificent capture. I have been trying to get a shot like this for a year now and haven't got it. Mine are always out of focus. Yours is great. l/v Jerry

now the question is did he break through the water or did he slide for 35 feet onto her and before he stopped, inquiring minds want to know :-) L/F

Wonderful incoming flight Donna. Great catching the reflection in the ice too. f/v/fb :)
