While walking around looking at the old vintage trucks and antiques in Jerome, I noticed quite a few hummingbirds zooming around so I went back to the car, changed lenses and after a lot of patience I was able to get a shot of this Anna's hummingbird. Anna's Hummingbirds are hardy creatures and are the only hummingbirds to winter in northern climates, provided there are plenty of winter flowers to support them. It is the only North American hummingbird species with a red crown (top of the head).
It is the largest and most common hummingbird found in California; and the only one that produces a song.
