Gus packed up the sign from their ranch in Lonesome Dove on a wagon as the former Texas Rangers Robert Duvall (Gus McCrae) and Tommy Lee Jones (Captain Call) hit the trail to renew their spirit of adventure as they and several other residents of a small Texas town join their cattle drive to the Montana Territory. Based on Larry McMurtry's novel, the movie aired in1989. An estimated 26,000,000 homes tuned in to watch Lonesome Dove, unusually high numbers for a Western at that time.
This tv movie has sold more DVD's than any Western in Cinema history.
Artist Note: The Latin phrase, "uva uvam vivendo varia fit" that appears on the Hat Creek Cattle Company is a corruption of the phrase "uva uvam videndo varia fit" from the scholia to Juvenal 2.81. It means, literally, a grape changes color (ripens) when it sees another grape.
