On Overlook Canyon Trail to Observation Point, Zion National Park-Utah
It was a little scary walking onto this platform looking down hundreds of feet into the canyon below even though I know it is safe, I walked briskly to cross it!
Spend a few hours trudging up a steep mountainside to one of the best viewpoints offered by the list of Zion's classic trails. This challenging path is complete with dizzying drop offs and eye popping scenery looking down into Zion Canyon. The maintained path zigzags its way up the steep mountainside beside familiar reddish Navajo sandstone before venturing through Echo Canyon, a deep gorge filled with water gnawed sandstone pockets. Near the top of the trek you will see white rock; this layer is known as the Temple Cap formation. Beyond Echo Canyon walls drop sharply, giving way to spectacular views. At the trails end, looking down into the canyon is a spectacular display of stone sculptures contrasted by the bluest of skies – thanks to the clean air of southern Utah.

I love Zion National Park Donna. We have been there about 30 times and have hiked all the main hikes. The Overlook Canyon Trail hike is one of the easier hikes, except it can be quite slippery footing, due to all the sand as you can see on the boardwalk here. We did it in April 2017, the sand and water made it quite slippery, but we just had to be careful. Angels Landing Hike and Observation Point Hike are much more grueling, take more time and stamina. Angels Landing you can’t be afraid of heights and should be in shape. I love the shot you captured here, a great perspective, capturing the deep gorge. Beautiful! This hike gives just a taste as to what’s in store while visiting this glorious place. It can be scary when hiking anywhere in Zion due to rock giving way, possible earthquakes etc. You are so right about the blue skies. We had that and lovely, fluffy white clouds. Thank you for sharing your trip with us. LvFv Janet 💕
