Looking down to a valley of Aspens and Evergreens in Big Cottonwood Canyon along Guardsman Pass in the Wasatch Mountain Range, Utah
The golden shimmer of Aspen leaves fluttering in an autumn breeze, brilliant against a deep green background of conifers. The sight is one of those that defines home in the mountain West.
The product of 20 million years of geologic faulting, volcanic activity, and glaciation, the Wasatch Mountains, the western range of the Rocky Mountains, stretches approximately 160 miles across Utah from the Bear River in the north to Mount Nebo near Nephi in central part of the state. Most elevations along the range are generally between 9,000 and 10,000 feet.
