Born in Nashville, TN, Chalet has been a resident at Out of Africa Wildlife Park, Camp Verde, AZ from the time she was 2 weeks old. Coincidentally, her roommate and best friend, Kumba (a lioness), was also born on the same day. They have been together since they were each 2 weeks old. Tigers are very comfortable in water, and Chalet is no exception. Chalet is one of the participating Tiger Splash stars. She has mastered the art of jumping into water, as demonstrated by her spectacular leaps. Amazingly, Chalet has developed this skill without any training, as no animals are trained at the park. Instead, they are allowed to be themselves and have fun on their own terms.
Habitat:
Currently white tigers are only found in captivity. They have all come from 3 captured individuals, 2 from India and 1 from Russia. The last sighting of a white tiger in the wild was in India in 1970. The only known white tigers have been from the Bengal subspecies. Currently, several hundred white tigers are in captivity worldwide, with about one hundred being found in India.
