The Divine Mercy Image of JESUS is not another ordinary holy picture of JESUS. It is an Image JESUS Himself revealed to St Faustina and commanded her to have it painted.
The Divine Mercy is a form of God's compassion, an act of grace based on trust or forgiveness. In Catholicism, it refers specifically to a devotion which had its origin in the apparitions of Jesus Christ reported by Faustina Kowalska, in the early 20th century, in Poland. The rays that stream out have symbolic meanings: red for the blood of Jesus, and pale for the water (which justifies souls). The whole image is a symbol of charity, forgiveness and love of God.
When St Faustina first saw the original image that was being painted under her direction, she wept in disappointment and complained to Jesus: “Who will paint You as beautiful as You are?" 0923
