The Christmas Angel typically has a serene and benevolent appearance, often with wings and a halo, and is often depicted in white or light colors. It is a reminder of the angelic proclamation of the birth of Jesus to the shepherds, as described in the Christian Bible's New Testament, in the Gospel of Luke.
Because angels appeared high in the sky on the first Christmas, people began placing angels high on the top of their trees as a way to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
